What do you think is God’s purpose for your life?

Summary: God wants to enter into your spirit, to become your content and your satisfaction.

A. Man has God’s Image

Read Genesis 1:26

  • What appears to be the main idea emphasized in this verse?
  • What does it mean that we have God’s image?
  • How does this verse relate to God’s purpose?

B. Man is a vessel

Read Romans 9:21-24

  • What is a vessel? What is the purpose of a vessel?
  • Why does God use the word vessel in these verses? Why does it matter?

C.  Man has three parts

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:23

  • What is the difference between the spirit, the soul, and the body?

  • Share anything that impressed you from the verses we read in this lesson.
  • In what way is the truth presented in the Bible about God’s purpose the same or different from other influences in your life (such as your family, culture, peers, church, etc.)?
  • In light of what we have discussed, how can we pray for each other right now?

Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of heaven and over the cattle and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

Romans 9:21
Or does not the potter have authority over the clay to make out of the same lump one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor?

Romans 9:22
And what if God, wishing to demonstrate His wrath and make His power known, endured with much long-suffering vessels of wrath fitted for destruction,

Romans 9:23
In order that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory,

Romans 9:24
Even us, whom He has also called, not only from among the Jews but also from among the Gentiles?

1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Consider one person in your life who needs the Lord. How can we bring Christ to them this week?

Some examples of ways to bring Christ to people:

  • Pray that their hearts would be soft and opened.

  • If the opportunity presents itself, tell them what you learned this week about what the Bible says concerning the baptism.

  • Show them they matter to you by spending quality time with them (e.g. workout, get lunch, study together, etc.)

  • Encourage them through a phone call, video call, or text message.

  • Ask for their perspective about things going on around them in the world.
